We're pleased to introduce Jhaeyelle de Dios, lead UI/UX designer at Gameloft Vietnam, Saigon studio!

Jhaeyelle has been with us for almost three years and has worked her design magic with our teams in the Philippines and Vietnam.

Find out more about her job and the perks of our Saigon studio below!

Hi, Jhaeyelle! Tell us about yourself.

I’ve been with Gameloft for almost three years. I started as a senior UI/UX designer for Global Web Marketing in the Manila studio, and just this year, I relocated to Saigon and became the lead UI/UX designer for the Web Marketing Team.

My job revolves around creating better experiences and user interfaces for our websites and tools, evaluating and gathering design requirements, and of course, managing and leading my UI/UX team in Saigon.

Creating a website, I may say, can be a very tedious and intricate task. There's a lot of back and forth, iterations, understanding users, and all sorts of other challenges, but it's very fulfilling seeing your designs on a live site. Gameloft has helped me enhance my skills and experiences in my field of work, and I couldn’t be more thankful.

I’m pretty sure my colleagues know about this, but what I like most at Gameloft Saigon are the different drinks in the cafeteria (I've tried the entire drink menu from top to bottom) plus the amaaazing view of the rooftop, especially at sunset!

What do you enjoy most about being a UI/UX designer?

The research process is at the top of my list. We do a lot of brainstorming meetings with my team but because of the pandemic we tried to come up with other ways to collaborate.

From time to time, I still go for the traditional way though, like sketching low fidelity wireframes and storyboards.

My second favorite part would be the mock-up phase where we add all the visuals, colors, fonts, and decide which assets to use and how to lay out those assets. I love adding colors to my wireframes and just the thought of seeing my designs come to life makes me feel giddy.

What are some of your most memorable moments at Gameloft?

My most memorable moment at Gameloft would be the time when I won a PS4. I wasn’t really expecting it since there was like 100 employees in the Manila studio. It was also my first time winning such a huge prize at an event.

I also love all the activities we've held in the past like the sports fests event, bowling competitions, the annual Gameloft anniversary party, dinner parties, and fundraising activities.

What advice do you have for people, but especially women, who want to work in gaming or tech in a similar role?

Some may say that women are underrepresented in the tech industry, but I disagree. There’s an increasing number of women who work in the tech world, and many of my colleagues in Manila, Saigon, and Paris are women. We're just as skilled as men and are ready to thrive in an increasingly tech-driven future.

Some of the biggest challenges women face are fighting against stereotypes and finding their place in the world of technology. But a diverse technical society is great for innovation, and if you want to get into this field, just go for it!

Talk to women at tech meetups and conventions, be inspired by women who are already successful in this field, and don't be afraid of putting yourself out there!

We have multiple positions available in UI/UX design in our studios around the world, and you can find all of them here. Stay tuned next week for another edition of Humans Behind the Game!
