Ileana Draghici works as a data protection specialist at Gameloft Bucharest. Although she’s based in Romania, her role is quite global: she and the rest of her team take care of all aspects of data protection for the entire company!
She joined in 2019 after many years of working in the telecommunications industry because she was looking for a new challenge. This is Ileana’s first job in the industry, and she’s been loving every minute of it!

Hi, Ileana! Tell us about yourself.
Currently I’m the data protection specialist at Gameloft. At the beginning of my career, I worked in various jobs in different industries, like real estate and IT, and it was in 2014 that I started working on data protection in a telecommunications company. I clicked instantly with this domain and immediately felt like it was my calling.
My years in the telecommunications industry were a wonderful experience, and they helped me to develop and improve my data protection skills. But at the end of 2018, I believed it was time to change industries and challenge myself to try data protection jurisdictions outside of the EU, so I had to apply when I saw the job opening at Gameloft.
It seems that it was just what I needed, and although it was challenging at the beginning, it all came naturally and opened my horizons to worldwide data protection regulations. And after three years of working at Gameloft, I can say it was the best decision I could have made!
What is your role, and what do you enjoy most about your job?
As the data protection specialist, I handle different data protection topics worldwide, such as hosting data protection training sessions, assessing worldwide regulations, drafting privacy policies, and reviewing data protection agreements, projects, and applications.
What I like mostly about my job is that it’s very diverse and challenging. I have the chance to work with different teams in the company, so there are a lot of interactions, communication, brainstorming and team work. You can never be bored working on data protection either because there’s always something to do. Moreover I like the solidarity and creative energy we have within our team.
What are some of your most memorable moments at Gameloft?
I’ve made a lot of great memories during my time at Gameloft. But one of my memorable experiences was participating in the implementation of a new regulation.
I pieced the project together step-by-step and seeing it go live after watching it grow stronger each day with the effort, talent, and determination of different teams was wonderful.
What advice do you have for people, and especially women, who want to work in gaming in a similar role?
I would encourage anyone who is not afraid to experience new things or encounter another world to try working in the gaming industry! It’s fun, fresh, and challenging all at the same time. And although at first sight it seems like a “man’s world”, it’s full of strong, talented women who bring a little bit more color and joy into this world.
